Miss Grace Trelawny, Deerfield Park, Hertfordshire, was the only daughter of Sir Godfrey Trelawny, knighted for a service performed for King George III. Although she made an impression among the ton during her two London Seasons, it was not until her third and final Season that The Right Honorable Lord Crostworth asked her father for her hand in marriage. A week before the wedding, she discovered the baron ardently kissing her cousin and called off the wedding. Three years later, her father died, and her brother George inherited the family manse. His wife detested Lady Trelawny, so Grace and her mother moved to an estate that was part of her mother’s dowry. Realizing they needed to augment their income, Grace decided to open a small, select seminary for young women.
Capt. Marcus Chamberlain, the second son of The Right Honorable Lord Chamberlain, expected his regiment, the 95th Rifles, to be deployed as part of a British expedition. His older brother’s death several months previously meant that his nephew, Ambrose, became the new viscount. Ambrose was safely ensconced at Eton, but Marcus pondered what to do with his niece Violet until he saw Miss Trelawny’s advertisement.
The villagers quickly nicknamed Miss Trelawny’s five pupils “The Graces”.
Smitten with Miss Trelawny, the captain asked if she would mind writing him reports of his niece’s progress. She reluctantly agreed. Over time, the letters grew more personal in nature. Will Grace find true love after all?
